A free public symposium will take place on Sunday, March 30th, from 9am to 5pm, at George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium,
730 21st Street, NW, Washington, D.C.

Darrel A. Regier, M.D., M.P.H., Executive Director of the American Psychiatric Institute for Research and Education will serve as moderator for the symposium. The morning session will be devoted to the assessment and treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in the military and the afternoon session will feature presentations on the latest advancements in research on schizophrenia, bipolar disorder & child and adolescent disorders.

5th Annual Mission Possible Gala
Washington, DC


NARSAD’s annual Mission Possible Gala returns on Monday, April 21st, with an evening of dinner and entertainment at the Embassy of Sweden’s Sweden House.

The evening will feature the presentation of NARSAD’s Paul Wellstone Leadership Award to Joseph Greco, writer and director of the film Canvas, based on his personal experiences growing up with a schizophrenic mother; actor Joe Pantoliano, star of Canvas; and, Senators Mike Enzi (R-WY) and Ted Kennedy (D-MA), authors of the Senate mental health parity bill. The award was established in 2005 in memory of the late Minnesota senator Paul Wellstone and recognizes exemplary efforts on behalf of people suffering from mental illness. Previous recipients of the Wellstone Award include former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, Oregon’s Senator Gordon Smith, New Mexico’s Senator Pete Domenici the late columnist and humorist Art Buchwald and Rhode Island Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy.

The evening will also feature a raffle of spectacular jewelry by Adeler Jewelers, and an auction of museum-quality artwork created by and on behalf of those with mental illnesses.

  • February 2007 Gala - Our 2007 Gala was a remarkable success.  We raised over half a million dollars -  100% of which will go directly to mental health research.  We also won some valuable media coverage (we were on XM Radio!) 
  • March 2007 Distribution of NARSAD Literature at Defense Contractor’s On-Site Wellness Fair - NARSAD was invited to participate in a “Wellness Fair” at defense contractor L-3’s offices in Reston.  The Fair was sponsored by On-Site Wellness Corporation. Ideas for other corporations who might be interested in wellness fairs would be welcomed.
  • April 13-19, 2007 USA Today selected NARSAD as one of the top 25 charities “Closest to the Hearts of Americans”
  • April 20, 2007 Jeans Day at Bearing Point – Thanks to Ken and Charlene Devansky, this event raised several thousand dollars.  At this event, Bearing Point employees donated money to NARSAD in exchange for the privilege of wearing jeans.  We welcome ideas for other companies who would like NARSAD to participate in in-house charitable efforts.
  • 22 April NARSAD Literature Distribution at Politics and Prose Bookstore -  We distributed flyers and brochures from 4-6pm on 22 April during the book-signing and lecture for Dr. Fred Goodwin and Kay Redfield Jamison’s new book on Manic Depression. 
  • May 23, 2007 Wine and Cheese Tasting near Old Town at Buzz Lounge -  Held on Wednesday 23 May from 7-9:30pm at Buzz Lounge on the northern end of Old Town Alexandria VA, this small event raised over $3,500.
